Can't find the books you want at Oesterle Library? Don't worry: we can still get them for you. Follow the steps outlined below to have a book sent to you from another library via interlibrary loan. If you have any questions about interlibrary loan, please ask a librarian and we'll help you out.
-
Step One: Doublecheck to make sure Oesterle Library doesn't have the book.
We won't get you a book from another library if we already have it here at Oesterle Library. So, please make sure to check our holdings using the library's Books page first. If you know the title of the book you're looking for, choose the "Title" search under "Search For Books" and you'll get the best results. See below for an example:
If a record in CardinalCat, the library's catalog, indicates that a book is "Available," that means the book is on the shelf at the library right now, and you can come check it out anytime you want. If the catalog record indicates that a book is "Checked Out" or "Renewed" the book isn't available right now, and you can go ahead and move on to Step Two below (searching the I-Share catalog).
If you aren't sure whether or not Oesterle Library has a book, don't hesitate to contact us, and we'll look it up to make sure.
Step Two: Search the I-Share catalog.
If Oesterle Library definitely doesn't have the book you're looking for, your next best bet is to request it from another library via Interlibrary Loan. As a North Central College student, you can borrow books from any of 71 I-Share libraries. Chances are very good that one of those libraries has the book you're looking for. Just place a request using the I-Share catalog, and the book you've requested will be sent to Oesterle library within about 10 working days. When the book comes in, we'll send an email notice to your campus mailbox.
To request a book using the I-Share catalog, enter the title of the book you're looking for into the I-Share search box and then choose the "Title" search. (Look familiar? This catalog works just the same way as Oesterle Library's catalog, CardinalCat.)
Next, click on the record that matches the book you want.
Then, after you've clicked on the link to the record for the title you want, look at the top of the record for that title and then click "Request".
You'll now be asked to choose your home library (that's North Central College) and to enter your library ID number.
Your Library Borrower ID is the 14-digit number located near the barcode on your North Central ID card. It should look something like this:
Once you're logged in, just follow the on-screen instructions and place your request.
If you encounter any problems using the I-SHARE catalog, or have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Step Three: Submit an Interlibrary Loan Request Form (ONLY when a book isn't available at Oesterle Library or via I-SHARE)
If the book you're looking for isn't available at Oesterle Library or from any I-SHARE library, fill out the form below, and we'll get the book from another library for you. Please allow up to two weeks for a request to be filled. When the book comes in, we'll send an email to your NCC email address to let you know.
